Music

1. Knowledge (Flashcards)

a) Use the hard copy knowledge organisers* for each of the Set Works.
b) Create a detailed mind map using these music elements headings: Rhythm and Metre, Timbre, Texture, Instrumentation, Structure, Harmony and Tonality. For each element give examples from your annotated score with a bar number and a reason why the composer has done this; what are they trying to create? What is the effect that is happening?

2. Topic Practice (Solo and Ensemble Performance)

  • As there is only one exam for the Music course, you need to be considering the performance element of the course throughout.
  • Make sure you are practising at least 20 minutes twice a week. You should have a portfolio of performance pieces that you can pick from to record and submit.
  • Speak with your teacher or instrumental teacher to gain an understanding of the standard for each piece you are learning and what will be best to perform for your coursework

3.  Exam Practice

1) Use the listening question booklet to answer specific Set Work exam style questions. The tracks are located here* or use the CD that can be provided on request. The Music revision guide also has a selection of listening questions and music terminology questions that are very good.
